So glad you're here for another blog post! Here we go again with a bit of time that has passed that I haven't given a blog.
What a great month it was though! Gosh, my birthday month was truly almost an entire month of celebrations. We started at the end of August having a weekend getaway to St. Louis to see a concert, the rock band, Creed. They are back together after several years and it's like they never took a break! It was phenomenal! It was also pretty great having the kids all under the same roof for the entire weekend!
Then over Labor Day weekend we went to Table Rock Lake which is in Branson, MO. We stayed at a wonderful AirBNB that was on the water! So peaceful! We took in shows and had a wonderful time. And mama got everyone under one roof again!
My mom has had a few more ups and downs with her health, but we are thankful that she is at KU Med working on getting better and all of the kids got to see her and visit, which was great!
My sweet father-in-law also passed away this month. He lived in CA. Todd took the opportunity to make a few stops in California in his honor. We went to the beach and to Seqouia National Park. I got to visit a CA vineyard for my birthday! I have always wanted to see a California vineyard! There's so many vineyards all through CA and they span for miiles! It's amazing!
Through all of this month, it ended up being more about honoring family, and I am totally down for it! Makes me want to go even further with it and wrap it all up in a nice bow for this blog post, and for all of you!
Honoring Family: Creating Meaningful Traditions and Memories
As life moves forward and we grow through the seasons, there’s one thing that stays constant—our family. Whether it's the family we’re born into or the one we create with friends and loved ones, these connections are what root us in love, tradition, and support.
With my own journey of celebrating life, welcoming new milestones, and remembering those we’ve lost, it’s become clear just how important it is to honor the bonds that hold us together. I want to share a few ways to cherish and honor your family, no matter what stage of life you’re in.
Let’s dive in, sisters!
1. Create Lasting Traditions
Family traditions are the threads that connect generations. Whether it's weekly Sunday dinners, holiday rituals, or an annual family vacation, these traditions provide a sense of belonging and create memories that will last a lifetime. Start simple—maybe it's a monthly movie night or cooking a favorite meal together. These moments, though small, can become the fabric of your family’s story.
2. Honor Family History
Take time to learn about your family's past. Who were your ancestors? What values or traditions did they pass down? Honoring those who came before you keeps their legacy alive and helps you appreciate where you come from. You can create a family tree, keep a scrapbook of stories, or simply share memories during family gatherings. It’s such a beautiful way to keep loved ones close, even when they’ve passed on.
3. Celebrate Milestones Together
Life's big moments deserve to be celebrated! Whether it’s birthdays, anniversaries, or personal achievements, take time to recognize and honor these special occasions with your family. It's a wonderful reminder of how far you've all come and the love that continues to grow within your family. And don’t forget, sometimes the little milestones deserve big celebrations too!
4. Give Back to Your Loved Ones
Acts of kindness go a long way in showing your family how much they mean to you. Surprise your loved ones with thoughtful gestures, whether it’s helping with errands, offering words of encouragement, or simply spending quality time together. Honoring family isn’t just about big events—it’s also found in the small, everyday moments of love and support.
5. Remember Those Who’ve Passed
For those of us who have lost loved ones, like I did with my father-in-law, finding ways to honor their memory keeps them alive in our hearts. Whether it’s lighting a candle in their honor, visiting a special place, or continuing a tradition they loved, these gestures create a lasting legacy of love.
6. Practice Gratitude
At the end of the day, family is about love and connection. Take a moment each day to express gratitude for the people who make up your family, both past and present. A simple "I love you" or "Thank you for being there" can make all the difference in strengthening those bonds.
In a world that moves so fast, let’s make it a priority to honor and cherish the people who matter most. Families may change over time, but the love and memories we create together stay forever.
How do you honor your family? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments! 💖
Until next time, keep living, loving, and celebrating life to the fullest!
xoxo,
In your corner and rooting for you
Your bestie,
